A woman who is allergic to raw fruit and vegetables, she almost died from an anaphylactic shock is campaigning for better food labelling.

Hayley Harris from Newbury wants more food items added to the UK's allergen labelling rules.

Natasha's law came into force at the start of the month meaning a full ingredients list is required on all food prepared on the premises where it is being sold.

More than a million people in the UK suffer from Pollen Food Syndrome, but Hayley Harris' allergy is so severe that when she has a reaction it often restricts her breathing, forcing her to carry multiple EpiPens everywhere she goes.

Hayley says the most serious anaphylactic shock came after a restaurant didn't take her allergy seriously.

At the moment, there are 14 things food businesses, such as cafes and restaurants, need to tell customers about when selling food. This includes milk, soya, eggs and peanuts.

Around 2% of the population suffers from Pollen Food Syndrome and it's why Hayley wants to see raw fruit and vegetables added to that list.

Hayley, who has now launched a petition calling for more food items to be added to the UK's allergen labelling rules, says she's been  turned away by several restaurants because of her allergy.

While Hayley and her husband know their petition won't change the rules overnight, they hope by raising awareness they will help protect the lives of other Pollen Food Syndrome sufferers.
