Convoy of recovery trucks pay tribute to colleague killed trying to help stranded A303 driver

  • Video report by ITV Meridian's Mary Stanley

A procession of recovery trucks travelled through Hampshire in memory of a worker who died trying to help a stranded motorist on the A303.

Tom Watson, was 30 years old and a recovery driver.

Tom and two other people were killed when a lorry collided with a van, a car and a recovery truck near Andover last Wednesday (25 August).

Today colleagues drove in convoy past the accident site, ahead of his funeral in Southampton.

  • Earlier dozens of recovery truck drivers gathered at Rownhams services - friends of Tom Watson and others who simply wanted to pay their respects.

The procession travelled along the M3, A34 and A303 - past the accident spot.

It's hoped it will also serve as a reminder about the campaign slow down and move over - which aims to build awareness of the dangers of the job and the need for better protection for recovery drivers.

The procession was followed by a funeral for Tom.

His family who watched the procession said they were overwhelmed by the support for a man who would be in their hearts forever.
