Crowds turn out for unveiling of statue to honour Gurkha soldiers
A statue to honour Gurkha soldiers who've been part of the British army for more than 200 years has been officially unveiled in Aldershot.
180 thousand pounds was raised by the local community to pay for a sculpture of the first Gurka soldier to be awarded the Victoria Cross.
A huge crowd turned out for the event to honour Kulbir Thapa Magar who won his Victoria Cross in September 1915.
The statue was then revealed to applause. There was a minutes silence and then the laying of tributes. It was a proud moment for the Gurkha community.
The ceremony ended with traditional Nepalise music, a celebration of the life of Kulbir Thapa Magar and his legacy
