Council pleas for Dorset landlords to help house families fleeing Afghanistan
BCP Council is appealing to landlords, and second-home owners, who are able to offer a home to Afghan families arriving in the UK.
The council, who is currently in discussions with South West Councils, along with partner agencies and community groups, has pledged its commitment to supporting families devastated by the ongoing situation in Afghanistan.
Cllr Drew Mellor, Leader of BCP Council, said: "I'm proud of the response by local residents and community groups in offering support to Afghan families arriving in the UK."
"It is good that we can now connect landlords, who are in a position to provide suitable accommodation, to our Housing team."
"Colleagues will be able to give further information on the incentives available to landlords who come forward."
Cllr Drew Mellor, Leader of BCP Council, added: "I'm aware that we also have residents locally who have family and friends who are directly affected by the situation in Afghanistan."
"I am grateful to the local charities and voluntary organisations who are supporting those who are anxiously waiting for further information."
BCP Council has created a dedicated webpage providing information on how local people can offer their support, whilst also signposting those who are concerned about relatives living in Afghanistan to government support services.
