Police investigating if empty car seat was used to lure rape victim

Rape investigation - Thatcham

Police are investigating whether an empty car seat left in a lay-by was used to lure the victim of a rape in Berkshire.

A woman was attacked at around 11.30pm on Sunday 15 August after she stopped in a lay-by on the A4 in Thatcham, opposite the junction with Cox’s Lane.

Police were called at around midnight on Monday (16/8) after it was reported that she had been raped.

The victim told police she had stopped her vehicle at the scene because she saw a child’s car seat in a lay-by and was concerned there might be a child at risk because the car seat was empty.

Thames Valley Police is now working to determine the significance of the child’s car seat and whether it is linked to the offence.
