Cowes RNLI lifeboat crossed the Solent from the Isle of Wight early yesterday (16th August) evening to give follow-up support to a life-threatening drama that had involved three young children.

The children, all believed to be under ten years old, were seen to be in difficulty in the water off Lepe Beach and two men swam out to help them.

Although the men and children safely returned to shore, the lifeboat arrived to find one of the men face down on the beach and struggling to breathe.

He was given first aid by a lifeboat member, and also then checked by a member of the fire service and a member of Lymington coastguard team, before ambulance paramedics took over.
