Historic Lympne Castle goes up for sale for £11m
An historic castle in Kent has gone on the market to the tune of £11m.
Lympne Castle in Hythe is looking for a new lord or lady of the manor after being put up for sale on Savills website.
The castle's construction began in the 12th century as part of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s estate.
Historians believe that one notable visitor was Thomas Becket, as the castle was part of the Church estate.
The castle was eventually sold to Major Lawes of Dover, who installed a local farmer as a tenant.
This was the first time since the Norman Conquest that the castle was no longer under the ownership of the Church.
Today, the castle has been used to host weddings and corporate events, with the four outer cottages being used as holiday lets.
Whoever purchases the castle will also own around 130 acres of woodland and pasture.
