Police stand down after suspicious package found in Fareham is 'made safe'
A police cordon in Fareham in Hampshire has been lifted and emergency services have stood down.
A 100m cordon was put in place near Poundland after shop staff found a suspicious package on Thursday (22/07) afternoon.
The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Fareham Police and South Central Ambulance crew were at the scene and say the item posed no threat and was made safe.
Hampshire Police has thanked everyone for their patience while they dealt with the incident.
Police also thanked the local Tesco supermarket, who provided water to members of the public and emergency services in the area.
Transport links, including bus routes, were impacted as Fareham Bus Station was closed for several hours.
Passengers on First Portsmouth bus services had to be dropped-off and picked-up on the A32 before the Market Quay Roundabout.
The town's bus station and nearby roads reopened just after 4pm.
