Miracle baby born while Dorset mother contracts coronavirus and battled breast cancer
A couple from Dorset are celebrating the safe arrival of a baby daughter they're describing as their 'multi-miracle.'
Both parents, who are nurses at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, contracted coronavirus in the weeks before baby Ostara was born.
Not only that, her mum Kate Foxall feared she might never conceive, after battling breast cancer.
Report by ITV News Meridian's Richard Slee:
Kate had been told that there was very little chance of her falling pregnant again, following her four-year long treatment for breast cancer.
So the couple were delighted when they got the news, that Athena would be getting a sister.
Then two weeks before the baby was due, Kate tested positive for the Coronavirus.
Kate was out of her quarantine just three days when she gave birth to Ostara, but just a few days later, the baby was rushed back to hospital with a fever.
Kate Foxall:
Dan was working on a ward with Covid patients at the Royal Bournemouth hospital, when he contracted the virus last month.
Fortunately his symptoms were mild.
Daniel Bundy:
Kate had taken a year-long break from her cancer treatment and her job to try for her second baby.
Later this year she'll resume her hormone treatment, which she hopes will keep her cancer-free.
Meanwhile, Ostara has no idea of the drama surrounding her arrival a few weeks ago. No doubt she'll hear all about it when she's a bit older.
