A 'violent' man who ran into the sea to avoid police capture on the Isle of Wight, was eventually apprehended after a large fish scared him back out.

Hampshire Police, the Coastguard and Cowes RNLI were called just after 6am on Friday to deal with reports of a violent man near Thorness Bay.

The man thought he could evade being captured by running into the water.

However he was startled by a large fish in the shallows, and ran back out of the water and into the 'arms of the police'.
