£14m Covid-19 fund set up to help zoos and aquariums

A £14 million pound fund has been set up to help zoos and aquariums care for animals and stop them from collapsing in the pandemic.

While visitors have stopped coming, attractions across the region are stilling face huge costs to keep the sites running and the animals in their care fed and looked after.

Many say their vital work has been put in jeopardy, including Kent Wildlife Trust who say they're set to lose an up to £800,000 income and an army of workers.

A lot of the work that was carried out for the animal reserves was done by volunteers but now that's had to be suspended as it's not seen as essential work.

Although the lockdown may only last for a few more weeks, its impact on wildlife groups and parks might be felt for much longer than that as they struggle to keep up financially.
