Murder squad detectives arrest man after woman's body found in Bognor Regis
A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead at a house in Bognor Regis.
Police were called to the property in Collyer Avenue at 3.51pm on Saturday after the 52-year-old woman was found by a caller following concerns that she hadn't been seen or heard from for a couple of days.
A post mortem examination to establish the cause of her death is taking place.
A 47-year-old man from Bognor Regis was arrested on suspicion of murder, with the assistance of Hampshire police officers, on the Isle of Wight on Sunday morning.
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Geldart, who is leading the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team investigation, said: "Our thoughts are with the victim's family at this tragic time. They are being supported by our family liaison officers.
"We are keen to establish details of when the victim was last seen locally and also hear of anyone who may have been seen visiting the house and when. We are confident that this incident is confined and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.
Chief Inspector Jon Carter has thanked the local community for their patience and co-operation while the investigation continues. "We expect that our teams will remain at the scene for some time and I apologise for any disruption that may be caused locally.
"I would ask that people observe Government instructions around essential travel and social distancing and do not try to visit the scene."
