Coronavirus: Wiltshire couple among hundreds stuck at resort in Maldives

A couple from Wiltshire are among hundreds of holiday-makers stuck in a resort in the Maldives, after two members of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

Phil and Jeanette Stone from Winterslow, near Salisbury, left the UK on Monday 2nd March and arrived at Kuredu Island Resort and Spa the following day.

On Saturday morning they received a letter from the resort, asking all guests to meet in the bar, where they were told the island was being 'put on lockdown' with no sea planes allowed on or off the island.

Two staff members later tested positive for Covid-19, and are now self-isolating. In total, 8 cases were confirmed across the region.

Jeanette and Phil were due to return to the UK tomorrow (12th March) but it is unlikely they will be able to leave until the 20th March.

Meanwhile a couple from Newbury have just returned from Italy, which has been on lockdown after more than 10-thousand people tested positive for coronavirus. Hannah and Sean Butcher are now in isolation at home.
