Police given more time to question man on suspicion of terrorism offences in Sussex

Police have been given more time to question a man arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences in West Sussex.

Detectives carried out a pre-planned operation at an address in Worthing in the early hours of Monday 24th.

The 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the commission, preparation, or instigation of an act of terrorism.

Police say the arrest was intelligence-led and linked to Islamist-related terrorism.

Investigators now have until Monday 2nd March to question the man.

Detective Chief Superintendent Kath Barnes, Head of CTPSE, said: “This arrest forms part of a pre-planned operation by CTPSE, working alongside colleagues at Sussex Police.

“I would like to thank the local community for their patience while continue our investigation."

Chief Inspector Sarah Leadbeatter, Sussex Police District Commander for Adur, Worthing and Horsham, said: "Sussex Police is working closely with Counter Terrorism investigators to support their operation, which was intelligence-led and not in response to any specific threat to our local area."
