Disruption on SWR continues as work begins to remove derailed freight train
Disruption from a train derailment in Eastleigh could last until Monday, ITV Meridian has learned.
There were no trains between Southampton Central and Winchester on Wednesday because of the derailment.
Engineers have been working on site to remove the train and repair the tracks, but disruption could last well into the weekend.
The freight train came off the tracks at slow speed on Tuesday, blocking lines back from London Waterloo just outside Eastleigh station.
Network Rail have apologised for the disruption and said that they're "in the process of removing the freight trains."
A rail crane was brought in on Wednesday afternoon to remove the carriages, but work is still required to repair the damage to the tracks.
Six separate carriages came off the rails, which Network Rail says is being investigated.
Buses are replacing trains between Southampton Central and Winchester.
Services running to Waterloo are diverted via Portsmouth and Guilford, adding at least an extra hour to journey times.
South Western Railway is urging passengers to check before they travel.
