Fancy a walk like this? The plans to create a continuous coastal path in Kent
A continuous 33-mile walking route around the Isle of Sheppey in Kent could be created.
Natural England have today released their proposals for the costal path which would take in the Isle's dramatic landscapes, rare wildlife and allow people to explore Sheppey's rich military and maritime heritage.
It would also allow people to uncover areas which for most people have never seen.
The proposed route takes in Swale, Medway and the Thames Estuary.
James Seymour, Natural England’s Area Manager for the Sussex and Kent team said:"The England Coast Path around the Isle of Sheppey offers walkers the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the island’s coastline. It opens up some of the most inspiring – and previously inaccessible – landscapes with amazing views over both the Thames and Swale estuaries.
"It will provide opportunities to view spectacular wildlife over the wide open spaces of the south coast, including migratory and over-wintering waterfowl and birds of prey such as the majestic marsh harrier."
Kent already has has 66 miles of England Coast Path already open to the between Camber and Ramsgate.
Natural England is now consulting on the proposals and want to hear people's views.
If approved, the route could be completed during 2021.
