Today Former England and Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp and his wife Sandra officially opened the new main entrance of Poole Hospital.

The new entrance space is part of celebrations to mark 50 years since Poole Hospital was opened by the Queen.

The cost of the redevelopment has been paid for by the shops which have opened here, including a Costa and an M&S.

The hospital says the new main entrance provides additional services for patients, staff and visitors, including a new link corridor that enables patients to be transferred with improved comfort and dignity.

Harry Redknapp has paid tribute to the hospital staff who treated his wife Sandra when she was seriously ill with Sepsis. Sandra was treated for the deadly infection at Poole Hospital last year.

Three years ago Sandra was also admitted to Poole with an ankle injury after her husband accidentally ran her over.

Harry says: "Sandra's unfortunately spent a bit of time here in the last few years. Without Poole Hospital who knows where we'd be. Everyone from the people who came in and cleaned the room to staff nurses, doctors, everyone was first class."
