The sands of time: ancient sandstone rocks are adored by climbers
The large outcrops of sandstone, scattered along the Kent and Sussex border, are among the UK's most popular rocks for climbing.
As they are the nearest crags to London - and the only big outcrops until you get as far west as Dorset.
Many of these rocks are also havens for wildlife, as Abigail Bracken reports in our series 'Spirit of the South'.
