Cross-Channel ferry passengers have suffered gridlocked roads and delays of several hours around the Port of Dover.

Taking to social media, some travellers said they had missed ferries and reported being stuck in their cars for more than four hours.

The Port of Dover has been advising travellers to leave extra time saying it was experiencing very high volumes of traffic.

P&O Ferries at Dover apologised for the delays caused by technical difficulties and harbour delays. KCC Highways reported very heavy traffic on the major coastbound routes.

Many passengers took to Twitter to vent their frustration at the delays.
