Thousands descended on Aldershot in Hampshire on Saturday to celebrate its 50 year link with Britain's Airborne Forces.

From 1950 to the year 2000, Aldershot was the home of our Airborne Forces.

At a service in Princes Gardens, in the centre of the town, a bronze statue on top of a granite plinth from the Falkland Islands was unveiled.

It was the idea of two former parachute regiment soldiers, Tommy Simpson and Richard Stacey.
