Homes evacuated in Sussex town due to wartime grenade

A main road in Littlehampton had to be closed and neighbouring properties evacuated when a wartime grenade was found at a housing estate.

Police set up a cordon on the A259 Worthing Road when the World War Two device was discovered on Lansdowne Road.

Explosive Ordnance Teams were called to the scene and assessed the situation. The device was understood not to be a risk to the public.
