Fancy dress shop in Portsmouth closing after 95 years

Owners of a fancy dress shop in Portsmouth say they are being forced to close after 95 years of trading.

'U Need Us' on the High Street has been run by generations of the Searle family.

However they now say that current issues facing retail, including the rise in online shopping, means that they will be shutting their doors.

U Need Us opened in Portsmouth in 1923 and has been run by the Searle family ever since.

It was founded by the grandfather of the current owner Steve who started working at the shop 35 years ago.

The shop has been at its current site on Arundel Street since the 1960s.

The shop sells all things fancy dress, from wigs to practical jokes.

Shoppers have been expressing their sadness and shock over the shop's news.

U Need Us will be closing in the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime, a sale of all the shop's stock has begun.
