It is essential that a long-term solution is found to tackle the congestion that blights the lives of people who use the A40 in Oxfordshire on a daily basis.

That is according to the MP for Witney, Robert Courts, who held an adjournment debate in the Commons earlier this month to raise awareness of traffic problems.

Up to 32,000 cars use the stretch of the road between Witney and Oxford every day.

Meanwhile, Oxfordshire County Council has put together plans for £180 million pounds worth of improvements to the A40.

Phase one would see a park and ride scheme at Eynsham and an Eastbound bus lane.

Phase two would include a westbound bus lane, better cycling routes and a dual carriageway.
