Poole Hospital's A&E and maternity unit to move to Bournemouth

There were angry protests in Poole on Tuesday after local councillors voted not to refer plans to close Poole Hospital's Accident and Emergency Department to the Health Secretary.

The main A&E and maternity services at Poole Hospital are due to move to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital as part of a major re-organisation of health services in Dorset.

Campaigners had hoped that by referring the decision to the government, the unit could be saved.
