Extra flood defences were installed at Swanage in Dorset to protect the High Street as heavy rain and strong winds coincided with high tide on Friday night.

At Mudeford Quay near Christchurch, waves overtopped the quayside. The Environment Agency advised people to stay away from the area with tides expected to be higher than normal.

Meanwhile, two fire crews from Sturminster Newton were called to the Dorset village of Fifehead Neville around midnight when a car became stuck in two and a half feet of water. The driver was rescued and uninjured.
