Sarah Payne's murderer stabbed in his prison cell

Roy Whiting, the man who snatched and murdered schoolgirl, Sarah Payne, has been stabbed in his prison cell at HMP Wakefield, according to newspaper reports.

The 59-year-old was found guilty in 2001 of the eight-year-old's abduction and murder and is serving a minimum of 40 years.

It's reported that he was stabbed by two other inmates and taken to hospital.

Sarah Payne, who lived at Hersham in Surrey, was playing in a cornfield with her brothers and sister near her grandparents' home in Kingston Gorse in West Sussex in July 2000.

Her body was found 17 days later in a field near Pulborough.
