Dig reveals Oxfordshire's Iron Age history
Volunteers have been helping archaeologists unveil the past at one of Oxfordshire's most ancient sites. A dig has been taking place over the last three weeks at the Earth Trust at Little Wittenham, ahead of a planned extension at the charity. The Earth Trust lies close to the Wittenham Clumps, the site of an Iron Age hillfort. A previous dig 15 years ago revealed the remains of roundhouses dating from around 400 to 100BC. This month's dig aimed to shed light on the people who lived in the settlement.
The dig has attracted a lot of attention over the past 3 weeks. More than 50 volunteers have helped with the project and school children have also visited to find out about the history of their area. Here's our report from Mary Stanley
