Deaf cafe opens hearts and minds in Sussex
A married couple who were both born deaf are celebrating their first year of running a deaf-friendly cafe.
Caroline and John Palmer opened the Talking Hands cafe last October.
Customers can use sign language to place their orders and the venue holds regular signed events.
It's estimated one in six people in the UK has hearing loss or is deaf.Sufferers can experience isolation and even discrimination.
Malcolm Shaw went to meet the couple fighting to improve awareness of hearing issues:
Malcolm spoke to John and Caroline, Rebecca Wangi whose toddler son is profoundly deaf, and dentist Matthew York, who learned to sign to communicate with one of his patients.
