M27 bridge demolition: Video shows scale of operation

Contractors are working round the clock Credit: Armac Group

This is what's been happening on the M27 - and why your journey through Hampshire may have been delayed.

Highways England is removing the Romsey Road bridge, with long diversions in place.

Demolition company Armac Group posted this video on social media to show the scale of the operation:

A diversion of 60 miles is in place over the weekend as Highways England begin works to replace two bridges on the M27. It's the biggest diversion of it's type in the country.

The motorway remains closed between junction 4 for the M3 and junction 3 for the M271, where the Romsey Road bridge will be demolished.

For drivers heading west, it means a diversion of 60 miles via the M3, up to the A34 to the A303 past Andover and Amesbury. It will continue onto the A345 to Salisbury, south on the A36 to rejoin the M27 at junction 2.
