Brighton host Southampton on Tuesday evening in the second round of the Carabao Cup with both sides expected to make wholesale changes ahead of the tie.

The Seagulls return to the Amex Stadium for the first time since their brilliant 3-2 victory over Manchester United just over a week ago, and will be looking to get off to a positive start in the cup.

Southampton meanwhile travel to the Brighton hoping to register their first win of the season, following two defeats from their opening three league games.

Record signing Alireza Jahanbakhsh could be set to make his full debut for the Seagulls after his £17m move to the South Coast, while youngster Viktor Gyokeres is also expected to feature.

The 20-year-old Swedish forward has impressed during Brighton's unbeaten start to the Under-23 season and could be in line to make his senior debut for the club.

Florin Andone (groin), Bruno (hamstring), and Jose Izquierdo (knee) are all still sidelined for the Seagulls.

Midfielder Pierre-Emile Højberg is suspended for Southampton following his red card during Saturday's defeat to Leicester, meaning club captain Steven Davis could make his first start of the season.

Angus Gunn could be in line for his Saints debut, while the likes of Matt Targett and Manolo Gabiaddini could also start for the first time this season.

Southampton have lost just one of their last seven against Brighton, and were 3-0 winners the last time the two sides met in the League Cup in 2001.

Saints boss Mark Hughes hasn't been knocked out of the League Cup at this stage of the competition since a 5-3 defeat to Brighton on penalties in the 2008/09 season.
