Moves are underway to restore the Royal Pavilion’s historic Saloon to the dazzling splendour of its original interior design.

The final stages of the renovations are currently taking place and all will be revealed on September 8th when the Saloon re-opens to the public.

Decorated for King George IV in 1823, visitors will step into a room of breath-taking beauty and experience history at its visually stunning best.

The painstaking and highly-skilled work has involved recreating the original silver and ‘pearl white’ wall decoration, using platinum leaf instead of silver to prevent tarnishing plus gold leaf beading.

Keeper of the Royal Pavilion, David Beevers, explains why the restoration is taking place.

The restoration project has been externally funded following a successful fundraising campaign led by The Royal Pavilion & Museums Foundation, with generous support from the public, numerous trusts and the charity’s patrons and members.
