More than fifty firefighters were needed to tackle a fast spreading blaze in a field in Oxfordshire this weekend.

Crews from Didcot, Wallingford and Wantage fire stations were deployed to the field at the Ewelme Downe Farm in Ewelme near Wallingford at 5.27pm on Saturday.

At the height of the incident ten fire engines and additional support vehicles were at the scene to bring the fire under control.

After the incident Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service thanked its counterparts from the Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service for their assistance. The police were also called in to deal with road closures, while the National Police Air Service provided support form the air.

There have been no reports of any injuries. Representatives from the fire service say the fire is believed to have been started accidentally.

Group Manager Dave Bray, a firefighter who attended the incident, said it was challenging for him and his colleagues because they had to work in very hot temperatures.
