People living near MoD's Salisbury Plain firing range complain of acrid smoke

The MoD has stopped live firing exercises on Salisbury Plain until further notice as people living in nearby villages say acrid smoke in the air is making their lives a misery.

Large clouds of smoke have been caused by army exercises which use explosives and ammunition.

The smog has been recorded up to 40 miles away - with the neighbouring villages of Shrewton and Durrington badly affected. And this morning, the A360 between Shrewton and West Lavington, was closed because of very poor visibility.

It's thought the dry and hot conditions have made things worse - as Richard Slee reports.
