A power cut has caused cancellations and major delays for passengers on Eurostar services.

Huge crowds were forced to wait at St Pancras Station in London as trains were held at Ashford in Kent and in Calais.

Eurostar said there was a problem with overhead power cables and apologised to passengers. The Channel tunnel reopened at lunchtime but severe delays continued for much of the afternoon. By 3:30pm delays were still in excess of an hour.

Mobile phone footage showed huge crowds of people waiting at St Pancras Station as engineers worked to fix the problem.
