Human remains dating back to the eleventh century have been found during excavation work on the South Downs near Newhaven. the discovery was made during survey work for the on shore cables needed to link to the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm.
The skeleton was almost completely intact, which allowed experts to date the find to the years leading up to the Norman Conquest.
The remains were uncovered in 2015 during the wind farm construction process. Analysis has shown that the man had a physically active life, but it ended violently with him suffering cuts to the neck. It is believed he may have been executed.
