Performance of Titanic the Musical abandoned amid safety concerns

The opening of Titanic the Musical had to be stopped last night in Southampton after plaster from a wall fell onto the stage.

The second act of the show was cancelled by organisers at the Mayflower Theatre, who were concerned for the safety of the cast.

In a statement, the theatre said remedial work is taking place and they expect tonight's performance to go ahead.

It also thanked audience members for their understanding and are in the process offering them seats to another performance.

Titanic the Musical

The musical, written by Maury Yeston and Peter Stone, tells the story of real people on board the legendary ship during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York.

It runs at The Mayflower until April 21st.
