Motorcyclist was hit by another motorbike in fatal A420 crash
Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A420 near to the Botley Interchange.
Just before 4.30pm on Friday a motorcycle was involved in a collision with a stationary van in lane one of the A420 a short distance from the A34 Botley interchange roundabout.
The rider fell from his bike and was struck by another motorcycle travelling in lane two of the A420.
The air ambulance attended the scene and the first motorcyclist a 72-year-old man from Warwickshire was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed as have HM Coroner for Oxfordshire.
The van driver was uninjured and the second motorcyclist was taken to the JR2 hospital by land ambulance and has since been discharged.
No one has been arrested.
Senior investigating officer, Sgt Jack Hawkins of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, based at Abingdon, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this very difficult time.
The eastbound carriageway of the A420 was closed at Botley until about 8pm .
The crash also caused significant traffic delays on the A34 northbound at Botley and other surrounding roads at rush hour.
