The CEO of Network Rail, Mark Carne, has apologised to passengers as upgrade work scheduled for August 'will be disruptive'.
Hundreds of thousands of rail passengers who use Waterloo, London Bridge, Charing Cross and Waterloo East were today warned of the biggest ever summer of disruption.
Network Rail announced its final plans and revealed emergency staff will be on duty at key locations to ensure that any track and signal issues are dealt with as fast as possible.
The works will allow new and longer trains to run providing more than 170,000 extra seats.
During August £133 million will be spent and 17,000 staff will be out on the tracks.
Mark Carne, the CEO of Network Rail, spoke to ITV Meridian exclusively earlier today.
