Until 2010, the constituency of Oxford West and Abingdon looked a fairly safe seat for the Lib Dems.

But the Conservatives took it and, in 2015, won again with just 176 votes in it.

This time, a number of candidates are standing, but not the Green Party, which has stood aside in a bid to help the Lib Dems regain it.

There are over 78,000 voters in the constituency. Turnout in 2015 was 75%.

The Census tells us that around 14% of people live there, almost 11,000, are aged between 18 and 24. At the last election, 43% of them voted.

There are more than 14,000 over 65s living in the constituency and 78% of them voted two years' ago.

In the EU Referendum Oxford and Abingdon voted to remain.

As Mel Bloor reports.

There are four candidates standing in the Oxford West and Abingdon constituency - Conservative, UKIP, Liberal Democrat, and Labour:

  • Nicola Blackwood, Conservative

  • Alan Harris, UKIP

  • Layla Moran, Liberal Democrat

  • Marie Tidball, Labour

An interesting fact about the constituency: Did you know that Abingdon is a market town that has existed as a settlement since the Iron Age - which makes it one of Britain's oldest occupied towns!
