Government gives go-ahead to new crossing beneath the Thames
The Government has given the go-ahead to a new Thames Crossing.
The new Lower Thames Crossing - running beneath the River Thames - will be constructed between Kent and Essex from Tilbury to Gravesend to ease congestion on the busy Dartford Crossing.
It will be one of the UK's longest road tunnels at around two miles.
The Government says it will cut journey times for commuters and boost the economy.
