Arson leaves future of cricket club in doubt

The remains of Aldwick Cricket Club's pavilion

The future of an amateur cricket club in Sussex has been put in doubt after its pavilion was destroyed in an arson.

Aldwick Cricket Club in Bognor Regis lost around £10,000 of equipment in the fire and says it may now have to fold.

The pavilion, which is owned by the council, had stood at the Felpham Oval for more than fifty years. The building itself was insured, but the contents weren't - including kit for the club's fifty-one players.

The pavilion contained thousands of pounds of equipment

In a bizarre twist, one of the club's captains, Ian Guppy, also works for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service as a call handler and picked up the initial call about the arson.

Police say nobody has been arrested in connection with the arson and that they're looking for any witnesses.
