Hospital's 'chaotic' A&E is improving, say inspectors

A health watchdog has found that a Hampshire hospital's accident and emergency department - deemed 'chaotic' and 'inadequate' - has improved since its last inspection.

A&E services at Portsmouth NHS Trust's Queen Alexandra Hospital had been rated as 'inadequate' last year. At the time Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors - who had turned up unannounced in February - found that patients 'may have been exposed to the risk of harm'. In one observation, inspectors witnessed a "chaotic work area" in the acute medical unit (AMU).

Now, almost a year later, hospital has been rated as 'requires improvement'.
