Simon's Blog - Stormy Weather

Well we knew he was coming and boy did he deliver!

Yes Storm Angus brought us some heavy downpours and very strong winds over the weekend and as ever, many of you were on hand with a camera to capture some of the action.

Ashley was at Folkestone Harbour Arm where you could play a game of now you see it...

....now you don't...

....with the lighthouse.

Here’s a big wave in Deal from Peter Johnson, who was hopefully standing far enough away to not get wet feet as he took the photo.

Here’s a before and after shot of Rikki Maykels tree in Brighton.

I feel sorry for whoever has to pick them up!

Here's a brilliant photo that Paul Dimarco took in Swanage of the stormy weather out to sea.

I love it that you can see where the rain is bucketing down in the distance, meanwhile in the dry foreground there’s a gull without a care in the world.

And finally have a look at these clouds that David Illman spotted in the sky above Bognor Regis on Saturday.

They’re called mammatus clouds and are basically bulges and pouches that sometimes form on the bottom of storm clouds.

And if you're interested, mammatus comes from the Latin word "mamma" which translates to "udder" or "breast".
