It was a tragedy that shocked neighbours and the wider world - a mother and her toddler daughter whose bodies lay undiscovered for eight days at the flat they shared in Gillingham

An inquest heard today Lilian Oluk and her two year old daughter Lynne Mutumba may have starved to death.

The inquest was told that the struggling mother - diagnosed with HIV in Uganda - was fighting for UK citizenship and may have 'given up' and stopped eating.

A coroner recorded an open verdict.
