Weekend of celebrations across the South for Queen's 90th birthday

Thousands of people are enjoying a weekend of celebrations to mark the Queen's official birthday.

Her Majesty was joined by family members on the balcony at Buckingham Palace yesterday following the Trooping of the Colour Ceremony.

Among them, Princess Charlotte giving her first public 'royal wave'.

Today, many charity workers and royal well-wishers from the south are travelling to London for the Patron's Lunch street party, the finale of a weekend of celebrations.

Ten thousand people will sit down at the rows of tables on The Mall for a picnic hamper lunch, with Buckingham Palace in the backdrop, before the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry arrive to watch a carnival-style procession.

At Legoland in Windsor they've even created their own interpretation of the royal street party, complete with bunting, hampers, and the royal family.

And in the south, across towns and villages, umbrellas are being readied for our own local celebrations.

In Winchester yesterday, hundreds took part in a tea party in the cathedral grounds, to mark the royal birthday, and the departure of the Dean, the Very Reverend James Atwell

All generations were delighted to be part of the celebrations.

Meanwhile in Abingdon yesterday, there was the traditional bun-throwing in the town square.

The 255-year old tradition, which attracts thousands of people, takes place to mark royal events.

The 4,500 specially-baked currant buns, which feature a crown design on the top, were thrown from the roof of the county hall.

It wasn't without incident - Fi Cooper posting on Twitter a video of the moment a currant bun hit a gentleman in the face! Thankfully no harm done.
