Campaigners welcome Southern Health scrutiny

A conversation with people who use services such as those provided by Southern Health

The criticism of the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust has raised concerns about a climate in which the poor treatment of mental health patients and those with learning disabilities has gone unchallenged.

Many people, including Connor Sparrowhawk's mother believe they've long been treated as second class citizens. Campaigners hope that this new level scrutiny will have an impact across all walks of life, and improve things for others. Dan Scorer, the Policy Manager from Mencap gave his reaction.

ITV Meridian reporter Rachel Hepworth has been following the Southern Health investigation, and she spoke to some of Connor Sparrowhawk's friends, and others who say they are not only having to deal with their own learning disabilities, but discrimination too.
