Simon's Blog - Bluebells
What's not to love about bluebells?
Well apart from that according to folklore hearing one ring is a sign of impending death!
Thankfully they were all pretty quiet on the day I visited Wakehurst Place in Sussex, where once again they are growing wild and free in both the Iris Dell and in the surrounding woodland.
I met up with Chris Jenkins from the nursery and Conservation Manager Ian Parkinson.
As well as the stunning carpets of bluebells on public display, there's also a treat this year exclusively for the Friends of Wakehurst members, who will be allowed to enter Sheepwash Wood, which is one of Wakehurst’s best kept secrets.
It's a bit of ancient woodland that forms part of Wakehurst’s Site of Special Scientific Interest and is awash with bluebells and spring flowers but is set aside for nature conservation.
