Shocking images show people posing for photos on dangerous cliff edge

People risking their lives posing for photographs at the edge of a cracked cliff edge have been criticised by coastguard officials.

Last week a large crack opened up in the cliff face at Seaford Head close to a foot path.

There are fears that the cliff edge at the East Sussex beauty spot could collapse at any time and a cordon has been put in place.

But today warnings to keep safe seem to have fallen on deaf ears when a couple were spotted standing and posing for pictures close to the edge and near the large crack.

Local resident Wayne Spring told ITV News Meridian: "I saw the crack appear last week and I posted a picture and it went viral.

"I came down here today to see if the crack had gotten any worse.

"All of a sudden two people appeared at the top.

"A small crowd gathered and you could hear the gasps of utter disbelief.

In a post on its Facebook page Newhaven Coastguard said: "Less than a week after warnings about the dangerous cliffs at Seaford were published on we have received these pictures taken today a short distance away from the cracked cliff.

"Extra signs are in place as well as roped off areas, although this piece is not roped off. Please keep at least 5 metres away from cliff edges.

"In a coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for Coastguard."
