Simon's Blog - Tree-Mendous!

A couple of weeks ago I was at Wakehurst Place in Sussex measuring Britain’s tallest living Christmas tree. It was one hundred and twenty feet and six inches by the way.

Well it got me thinking about Christmas trees with roots and I wondered if you plant them after the festive season are they likely to keep growing?

So I posted the question on my @SimonParkinITV timeline on Twitter and soon found out the answer is yes.

Here's the one Phillipa Walker in Birchington planted six years ago.

It might not be the biggest but it's still doing very well.

Meanwhile in Walderslade...

...and Doreen Swain got this when it was two feet tall and it's still growing in the garden ten years on.

And finally John White and his future wife bought one in 1992 for their first Christmas together. They planted it in his mum's back garden and this is that same tree 23 year's later...

...and 30ft taller!

So if you've got a Christmas tree success story please let me know by emailing me a picture to meridianweather@itv.com.
