Sheltered housing services in Canterbury and Whitstable under threat
More than 100 elderly people living in homes in Kent have been told that some of the support they receive could be taken away.
Canterbury City Council is consulting on whether to carry on providing extra services like round-the-clock staff at four sheltered housing schemes.
The council wants to take away this extra help. But it is considering whether to start charging for it instead.
But residents and their relatives are not happy. Genette Collins says her father, Mick, owes his life to the staff whose jobs are now at risk.
Canterbury city council is consulting on whether to take away enhanced services at four sheltered housing schemes - because its funding has been cut by the county council. Or, whether to start charging tenants an extra £33 a week to keep the extra support.
The sheltered housing services under review are:
Cranmer House, Canterbury
Whitgift Court, Canterbury
Collard House, Canterbury
Lang Court, Whistable
